School shooting film to be released in spring

The movie Dark Matters deals with the complex and emotionally jarring subject of school schootings.  The film, based on true events stars Meryl Streep and Aiden Quinn and now has a US release date: April 11 in New York and then wider thereafter. This announcement, according to Yahoo! News, comes shortly after the recent Illinois school shooting not to mention the shooting death of a Junior High student in California. The movie was previously delayed after the Virginia Tech school shoootings out of respect for the victims. Why the studio feels that now is a more appropriate time to release the movie is, to me, a mystery. The plot is similar to the Virginia Tech shootings but really, victims of any school shooting are going to be affected by this movie. The film by reports doesn't glorify or sensationalize the incident in any way and in fact offers some insight into the cause of the events.  It did win the Alfred P. Sloan prize for films dealing with science at last years Sundance.
