batmanjokerToday was a big day for marketing for the upcoming installment of the Batman franchise. We're all familiar with the previous viral sites but now there are a whole slew of em to check out. Ibelieveinharveydent.com has been up and running for a while now. If you haven't been following it, you should check out some of the pics and videos Dent supporters have been uploading.

Now there are lots of new sites to check out. I think this is all the new ones but let me know if you've seen any others:

The Gotham Times - front page story about Dent announcing his candidacy for DA
Maiden Avenue Report - a local Gotham news blog a la The Drudge Report
Gotham Cable News - a site for Comcast Gotham to announce the impending launch of a cable news channel
Dana Worthington.com - Dent's opposing candidate in the race for DA
Citizens for Batman - kind of self-explanatory
Gotham Victims Advocate Foundation - again kinda self explanatory
St. Swithuns Catholic Church - not really sure what this one's about yet - site for the oldest Catholic Church in Gotham

Now for the SPOILER!!!!!!

If you don't wanna know, don't read any more (although it's not that big of a spoiler).

Slashfilm is reporting that Two Face is only gonna be in The Dark Knight for a couple minutes at the end of the film and basically just sets up his story arc for the next movie(s). So, most of the movie will just be Eckhart as Harvey Dent. That's ok...not totally unexpected actually.

Boondock Saints 2: Finally?

boondock_saintsNow you should take this news with a grain of salt especially if you know anything about Troy Duffy. According to Slashfilm, the writer/director of the original Boondock Saints and general whack job has announced that Sony Picture Studios has greenlit the follow-up film which was previously announced in 2002.

I really hope this news is for real. Boondock Saints is one of my favorite films of the past 10 years. Willem DaFoe gave one of his best performances and the film overall was really original and totally unexpected.

In 2000, Stefan Ruzowitzky's Anatomie was the German "Film of the Year" and it spawned a sequel in 2004. Here's how IMDB describes it: "Medical student Paula Henning wins a place at an exclusive Heidelberg medical school. When the body of a young man she met on the train turns up on her dissection table, she begins to investigate the mysterious circumstances surrounding his death, and uncovers a gruesome conspiracy perpetrated by an Antihippocratic secret society operating within the school."

Now, here's how IMDB describes Lakeshore Entertainment's upcoming movie, Pathology: "Dr. Ted Gray (Milo Ventimiglia) graduates at the top of his class at Harvard Medical School, which allows him to join one of the nations most prestigious Pathology programs. Extremely talented and accomplished himself, Ted is quickly invited into a camaraderie with the programs (sic) most elite group of interns. Teds (sic) good fortune turns to danger, though, as he in introduced to his new friends (sic) deadly game, who can commit the perfect murder. Their pawn before he realizes he has even joined the game, Ted must out think this new friends to avoid becoming their next victim."

We see the similarities, and have taken notice of the growing internet tide carrying the word "ripoff" to shore. But then, we kinda don't care. Really, are there any new stories?

Another 'Muppet' movie

muppetsLooks like the muppet franchise may be getting an update from some of the most up and coming talent in Hollywood right now. It seems that since Forgetting Sarah Marshall has been screening so well at SXSW, two members of that films writers have signed on to bring the muppets back to the big screen. Jason Segel (who's also on the hilarious How I Met Your Mother) and Nick Stoller.

Evidently in the movie (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) there's a scene with puppets designed by Jim Henson's workshop which is pretty hilarious. That may have had some role in securing them the gig. I guess we'll find out when the movie hits theaters April 18th and we can see their puppet work for ourselves.

I think this could be pretty cool. I mean, the last few muppet movies kinda sucked and this might be a way to infuse some fresh ideas from some truly funny guys into the franchise.

Norton as HulkEvidently all is not well with The Incredible Hulk. Early on in the production of this film Norton was basically given creative control as well as the right to re-work Zack Penn's script. Now there are issues with the editing and final cut of the film. No word on exactly what the conflicts involve but this could go either way.

If you'll recall, this isn't the first time that Norton has had disagreements with filmmakers over the final cut of a film. The last time this happened was with American History X when he won out over director Danny Kaye (which led him to remove his name from the film) - and that film turned out awesome. Because of this I tend to side with Norton although that's not really fair given that we have no idea what the conflict is even over.

Harvey Dent Speaks!

harveydent
AICN has posted an interview with Aaron Eckhart in which he addresses his role in the upcoming Batman film, The Dark Knight. In the interview, not only does he confirm that his character, Harvey Dent, will make the conversion from compassionate politician to evil matermind (Two-Face) in the movie, but that his character's arc will continue into yet another Batman film.

Here's the excerpt from AICN which they've taken from WizardUniverse.com.  There you'll find more of the interview as well.

Does Harvey get scarred in this movie or will we have to wait until the next one to see that?

Harvey Dent turns into Harvey Two-Face in this movie. So that answers your question better. [Laughs]

Have you filmed a lot of scenes in makeup?

I have done scenes as Harvey Two-Face. It's interesting. I won't tell you exactly what we're going for, but I think that I can say that it will use all of today's technology to create this character. He's going to be interesting, and I think that's what makes this character important in the movie--you get to see him as he was before, as in the comic books. Harvey is a very good guy in the comic books. He's judicious. He cares. He's passionate about what he loves and then he turns into this character. So you will see that in this film.

Now this is interesting - could Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull actually be showing at Cannes? I can't imagine this film premiering at Cannes, but that's just what Spielberg and Lucas are hoping will happen. The final print isn't ready yet and evidently Spielberg is still editing and scoring the film but the studio feels confident that when festival screeners see the film that it'll be a lock to show. The proposed premier date is May 18th which is 4 days before its worldwide release date on May 22nd.

I was sort of surprised to find out that this wouldn't be Spielberg's first time at Cannes. He previously premiered E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial there in 1982.

It was announced today and reported by Variety that Time Warner has made the decision to end New Line's run as an independent studio. They will be folded into Warner Brothers as a division but will maintain separate development, marketing, production, distribution, and business affairs.

This news doesn't really come as much surprise give the fact that New Line has had quite a few duds on their hands over the past several years - the most recent of which was The Golden Compass (which I thought was kinda under-rated).

This can't be good for New Line employees. I can't imagine that all of them will be kept on after the transition. This news comes from a memo sent out by studio co-chairmen Bob Shaye and  Michael Lynne who will no longer be with the studio.

New 'Wolverine' and 'Hulk' pics

Woohoo! Two really cool looking movies get some attention from Empire magazine this month - you know, the one with Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man on the cover. That's right, there are new pics from both The Incredible Hulk and the Wolverine origins film. Scroll to the bottom for all the pics.

There are two pictures from Hulk. The first is of Ed Norton starting to hulk out and the other is of William Hurt as General Ross. Totally exciting given the dirth of information on line about this movie although like I said before sometimes a little of the unknown is a good thing. Let's hope they don't reveal too much in the coming months.

The other image is from the Wolverine movie and shows another pic of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. No looks at the hundred of other characters set to appear in this movie yet. Now that'll be really cool when we start to get glimpses of some of those characters.

Today there've been a lot of announcements about some pretty high profile release dates. First, there was the announcement earlier today that the much maligned Justice League of America would get a release sometime in 2009. Now, we've got news on 2 more pretty exciting movies.

Warner Brothers has finally stepped up and announced that the controversial Spike Jonze version of Where the Wild Things Are will get a release October 16th of 2009! Kinda far off, right? I guess that gives them time to totally butcher whatever brilliance that Spike Jonze has put together.

We've also learned that Terminator 4 (currently titled Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins) will get a May 2009 release date. That's a big one since several other high profile movies are set to release in May as well, namely Wolverine, Star Trek, and Night at the Museum II.
