'Hellboy II' pics and trailer

hellboy2-1I personally loved the first Hellboy movie - I thought it was just really fun and action packed and really pretty different from other films in the genre. Now that Guillermo Del Toro is a bigger deal and has a little more power in Hollywood he's brought the franchise back for a second installment. This movie looks bad-ass. The first trailer was great but in this one, we get a better glimpse of some of the creatures and see that Del Toro's at it again with truly unique and stunning visuals.

Here are just a few pics from the film. You can find a whole bunch more over at Slashfilm and you can see the new trailer at the bottom of the page.

Monsters vs. Aliens is the upcoming Dreamworks animated feature set to be released in 2009. The film is set to be released in 3-D which, is either cool or just kinda eh depending on your take on the whole "let's make every movie 3-D" trend.

Today at ShoWest the studio revealed a lot about this movie (which I've been excited about). First of all, they released the first still for the movie and then they released the cast which is definitely A-list.

monstersvsaliensAccording to Cinematical, the heroine Susan is "a regular California girl who gets hit by a meteor and becomes 49' 11" tall (Attack of the 50-Foot Woman!), gets taken by the military, and renamed Ginormica. She's also being voiced by Reese Witherspoon. But that's not the only big name attached -- Rainn Wilson will handle the evil alien Gallaxhar, and Ginormica will be joined by Dr. Cockroach, Ph.D. voiced by Hugh Laurie, jelly-like B.O.B. handled by Seth Rogen, and the half-ape/half-fish Missing Link voiced by Will Arnett. Plus, there's Kiefer Sutherland as the aptly-named Gen. W.R. Monger and Stephen Colbert as the "plays it on steroids" president."

The folks over at IESB were at ShoWest today and do a great job of recapping a featurette which was screened there.

Something interesting (and not totally positive) about this film is that by the time it hits your local theater you'll be paying premium prices. That's right. The studio says that since the film is being filmed in more costly 3-D (instead of being converted after the fact) movie-goers will be paying a little more than they're used to. No word on exact pricing yet.

Christopher Nolan talks Batman

The New York Times has posted this great article about Christopher Nolan, the director of Batman Begins as well as the forthcoming The Dark Knight. In the article they discuss many things from Heath Ledger's scary good performance to the new feel that Gotham is taking in this film to his original involvement in the franchise. They have some great pics up as well which we've posted below but you should really go read the whole article.

tropicthunderSo, when I first saw this pic I totally didn't give it a second look. It didn't even occur to me that we were looking at the first photo of Robert Downey Jr in Tropic Thunder. Yeah, that's right. He's the second guy back. The transformation is amazing. I only hope they pull it off tastefully and don't end up being totally offensive.

In the movie, Downey Jr plays a serious/Oscar winning actor who gets cast in this war movie being filmed in South America. Evidently the part was originally written for an African American actor and so his character decides to "respect the original script" and do the role as a black man. Could be kind of interesting. The cast also includes Ben Stiller as the lead (and the film's director), Steve Coogan, and Nick Nolte.

New 'Wolverine' and 'Hulk' pics

Woohoo! Two really cool looking movies get some attention from Empire magazine this month - you know, the one with Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man on the cover. That's right, there are new pics from both The Incredible Hulk and the Wolverine origins film. Scroll to the bottom for all the pics.

There are two pictures from Hulk. The first is of Ed Norton starting to hulk out and the other is of William Hurt as General Ross. Totally exciting given the dirth of information on line about this movie although like I said before sometimes a little of the unknown is a good thing. Let's hope they don't reveal too much in the coming months.

The other image is from the Wolverine movie and shows another pic of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. No looks at the hundred of other characters set to appear in this movie yet. Now that'll be really cool when we start to get glimpses of some of those characters.

Vantage Point, a Columbia Pictures film that opens today (Feb. 22) is about eight strangers with eight different points of view trying to unlock the one truth behind an assassination attempt on the president of the United States. The film premiered this week and Sigourney Weaver looks awesome. For her age. Awesome.

Richard Kelly's 'The Box' pic

Richard Kelly's first film, Donnie Darko, turned out to be a huge cult classic.  Unfortunately, his follow up film, Southland Tales was met with mixed reviews (that's really being pretty nice).  His third movie looks to be more commercial judging by its' cast: Cameron Diaz, James Marsden, and Frank Langella.

The premise of the film sounds cool - a mysterious stranger shows up on the doorstep of a young couples' (Diaz and Marsden) house.  He presents them with a box and a simple propostion: if they puch the button on the box, they'll have all the money they need for treatment of their sick child but someone else will have to die.  They of course choose to push the button and hear a gunshot go off somewhere close.  Diaz then sets out to solve the murder she has caused.

Can't wait for this one.  Here's the first pic from the film.  It's not much, but we'll take what we can get for now.

The full-length computer-animated Star Wars film, The Clone Wars, is scheduled to open nationwide on August 15, to be followed by the premiere of a television series on TNT and the Cartoon Network in the Fall.

Warner Bros. says that Lucas Animation has already produced over 30 half-hour episodes of the series and a web-only documentary chronicling the creation of The Clone wars is online at http://starwars.com. Several of those episodes will likely be formed together to make the movie.

The trailer, which appeared online almost as soon as the film was announced, looks good, too. I'm not that much into Star Wars, but even I can see this is a bold move.

Dr Parnassus site is up

Terry Gilliam's new film, The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus has been receiving a lot of press recently with the death of its star, Heath Ledger.

There has been question regarding the fate of the film since Ledger's death last month. Principal photography had only been partially completed (filming had been wrapped in London) and was set to begin green screen filming. There had been some speculation as well as word from sources close to the film (including co-star Christopher Plummer) that the movie will go on in one form or another. Well, now the official site is up with a single image on display. The site actually launched last week with only half the image but now the image is complete - and it's pretty cool. Very interesting looking although it doesn't give much insight into the film itself.  Looks like Gilliam is asserting that the show will go on in one form or another.  Here's the pic, or go to the site for yourself to see the full sized image.

Another Indiana Jones photo

So, MTV's movie blog has posted another new photo from the new installment of the Indiana Jones franchise: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. This one shows everyone's favorite swashbuckling archaeologist looking all old and stuff. Not much of a change from the previously posted images if you ask me. Anyways, here's the new pic followed by the previously released photos including the two from the Empire magazine photo spread.
