Genuinely creepy, genuinely disturbing, genuinely unappreciated. The Ruins has everything you want in a horror movie, and as usual, it fails to get the respect it deserves.
I (Justin) grew up reading these books and am a fan of the movies. Looking forward to this one:
Released just last week, here it is:
In 2000, Stefan Ruzowitzky's Anatomie was the German "Film of the Year" and it spawned a sequel in 2004. Here's how IMDB describes it: "Medical student Paula Henning wins a place at an exclusive Heidelberg
medical school. When the body of a young man she met on the train turns
up on her dissection table, she begins to investigate the mysterious
circumstances surrounding his death, and uncovers a gruesome conspiracy
perpetrated by an Antihippocratic secret society operating within the
school."
Now, here's how IMDB describes Lakeshore Entertainment's upcoming movie, Pathology: "Dr. Ted Gray (Milo Ventimiglia) graduates at the top of his class at Harvard Medical School, which allows him to join one of the nations most prestigious Pathology programs. Extremely talented and accomplished himself, Ted is quickly invited into a camaraderie with the programs (sic) most elite group of interns. Teds (sic) good fortune turns to danger, though, as he in introduced to his new friends (sic) deadly game, who can commit the perfect murder. Their pawn before he realizes he has even joined the game, Ted must out think this new friends to avoid becoming their next victim."
We see the similarities, and have taken notice of the growing internet tide carrying the word "ripoff" to shore. But then, we kinda don't care. Really, are there any new stories?

"'He was just blown away by his own performance,' (producer Charles) Roven said. 'He said, `Can I see it again?' So he was really, really thrilled.'"
The Oscar-nominated Juno star has been forced to drop the film due to a scheduling conflict.
"We were racing to start production so that we could accommodate Ellen's schedule," the studios said in a statement. "But like so many other productions trying to start before the potential [Screen Actors Guild] strike date, this one needed more time, and we had to push back the start of production."

Fearing Harrison Ford's 65+ years might turn off young viewers who wouldn't see him as spry as today's action heroes. Paramount turned to the Web, hoping to give the trailer a viral boost and score points with a targeted--aka, younger--audience.
According to the AP, it worked: "Older audiences certainly remember Indy, but that's not the prime ticket-buying demographic. Thus the aggressive online campaign, which included what Paramount says is a record 4.1 million views on the Yahoo movie site in the first week and 2.6 million on the official IndianaJones.com site, the most ever for the studio."
It's easy to believe. The trailer is one of the most popular pages at Picture Start and search engines send a lot of visitors here looking for it.

The 2008 Oscars turned out the worst ratings for the ceremony's telecast, ever. The preliminary numbers are even down--way down--from the previous all-time record low in 2003. Clearly, Oscar's got a problem.
For $15.99, you too can own your own piece of movie history. Uxcell.com is selling replicas of the hamburger phone from the Oscar-winning film Juno. Apparently, demand is huge. "While we can't promise this Hamburger Phone (Cheeseburger Phone) will make you as sharp-tongued and clever as Juno, it will definitely make your cubicle as quirky as her bedroom," says Uxcell.
"If there was any time to do it, I would say it's now. The comic is doing amazingly well. [Cloverfield scribe Drew] Goddard could make something great with Whedon." Timing's right, they say, because Goddard just signed on to a four-episode arc of the pseudo-season eight of Buffy in graphic novel form.
Whedon could probably make something great, with or without Goddard -- but I think the signals for a long time have been "no go" on a Buffy movie, despite overwhelming demand from fans. Cinematical points out, afterall, that even Sarah Michelle Gellar is against the idea.
Still, we can hope.
