Robert Downey Jr as a black man in 'Tropic Thunder'
So, when I first saw this pic I totally didn't give it a second look. It didn't even occur to me that we were looking at the first photo of Robert Downey Jr in Tropic Thunder. Yeah, that's right. He's the second guy back. The transformation is amazing. I only hope they pull it off tastefully and don't end up being totally offensive.In the movie, Downey Jr plays a serious/Oscar winning actor who gets cast in this war movie being filmed in South America. Evidently the part was originally written for an African American actor and so his character decides to "respect the original script" and do the role as a black man. Could be kind of interesting. The cast also includes Ben Stiller as the lead (and the film's director), Steve Coogan, and Nick Nolte.

One of the other writers on Highbrid Nation wrote about Robert Downy playing a black man. He worries that Al Sharpton might have something to say about it, lol. Honestly as a black person I think it's kinda cool that movie make-up has gotten to the point where you can make someone look like another race and if the pics I've seen of Robert Downy in costume are accurate than they did a really good job! Plus Robert is a very capable actor so I'm sure he wont come across as stereo typical or offensive. I could be wrong though.
