Slashfilm has an early review of the new GI Joe film and...shocker...it's not positive!  According to the source, who's saw a rough cut back in March, the movie's pretty laughable.  He even goes so far as to suggest that the whole cast could/should get Razzie nominations.  Ouch!   On a more upbeat note, he does say that a few of the action sequences are pretty cool. Check the full review here.

This basically goes to support what everyone with half a brain and reasonable taste has been saying about this crapfest from the get go.
Glad to see she's getting back on track. We hope. From Variety:

Lindsay Lohan will topline indie fantasy comedy "The Other Side" alongside Woody Harrelson, Giovanni Ribisi, Dave Matthews and Alanis Morissette.

Story centers on a grad student who must spend the summer working at a scientific institute on a remote island. She discovers an eccentric community of characters who are hiding a secret about a tragedy that took place many years before.

Shooting is set for October at an island off the coast of Massachusetts.

Kinda excited about this one:  a musical by the director of Chicago, starring Daniel Day Lewis, Marion Cotillard, Nicole Kidman, Judi Dench, Penelope Cruz, Sophia Loren, Kate Hudson, and Fergie (of all people).  It looks fantastic and is definitely one to look out for.  The original Broadway musical won five Tony awards (it was nominated for 12) and it has a truly great score.  I can't wait.

A downtown San Diego theater had a preview of Angels & Demons last night -- people were lined up for hours outside before the one-time showing. I'll say this, it's a long movie and as I understand it, some big plot points from the book version were still left out.

But I liked it. I also liked The Da Vinci Code, but for different reasons. The two are fairly different films, even different types of stories. This one didn't drag as much as the previous, though there were some definite down moments. The ending, and the villian, I thought were -- predicatable. I'll leave it at that. What I really liked were the visuals. The crew did a great job recreating the locations they weren't allowed to film in, like the Sistine Chapel.

Though, if I had to choose between the two, my favorite is still The Da Vinci Code.
Got an email from a rep for 'Management' about this film, which opens this weekend in San Diego and a bunch of theaters across the country.

Looks like a sweet movie and I'm a fan of Steve Zahn (Joy Ride). Too bad it's opening against a juggernaut, Angels & Demons.

They're giving away free passes and an autographed poster on their Facebook page. Check out show times here.
After being screened at film festivals worldwide, Dim Sum Funeral will make its U.S. debut on April 27 at the Newport Beach Film Festival.

An Irish funeral has a wake. A Jewish funeral has "sitting shiva." A traditional Chinese funeral is something else entirely. That's what the estranged siblings of the Chinese-American Xiao family must undergo upon news of their mother's death. The one brother and three sisters don't get along, however they share one thing: hatred for their domineering and manipulative mother, the "Dragon Lady." Yet, as they honor her request for a traditional seven-day funeral, the siblings face an adventure of surprises, clashes, and unveiled secrets. In the end they learn about themselves, each other, their mother, forgiveness, and what it means to be Chinese.

Some folks in Austin got the chance. Cinematical says:

Paramount surprised an Austin, Texas audience with the first screening of J.J. Abrams new Trek reboot. Based on the general good buzz, I'm sure this Austin screening will be one of many held around the country in advance of the film's official release...
I vote for San Diego next. Oh, and the film got great reviews.

What, exactly, makes Austin so lucky?
It's gonna be one helluva month:

May 1
  • X-Men Origins: Wolverine
May 8
  • Star Trek
May 15
  • Angels & Demons
May 21
  • Terminator Salvation

Awesomeness.

hulkEmpire has a great interview with Louis Leterrier, the director of the upcoming update to The Incredible Hulk. Basically, he justifies the trailer which has been met with mixed reviews this week since its release. He goes from one scene to the next and explains a little about his thoughts for the film and ends up revealing some pretty cool stuff too. Here's the link.

I feel like I'm in the minority, but I really enjoyed the trailer. Definitely got me interested but didn't give away too much. Can't wait for this one to hit theaters.
